The volume of the Russian betting market exceeds 1 trillion rubles
The assessment of the Russian market of bookmakers was carried out by the Unified Regulator, based on the data of the information system. ERAI also reports that over the course of the year, information on over 6 billion bets was processed. At the same time, as part of the work to identify illegal gambling companies, over 4.5 million illegal gambling sites were tracked during the year. In the plans of the regulator – joint work with the Central Bank to counter illegal payment platforms, through which illegal gambling organizers conduct financial transactions for settlements with players.
The profile committee on economic policy of the State Duma recommends approving in the first reading the draft law, which provides for a ban on the work in betting shops of equipment operating on the principles of slot machines. The document also provides for the introduction of a ban on “quick games”. The document was submitted for consideration in July 2022. The government supported the bill, but subject to a number of improvements to the second reading.
The Association for the Protection of the Rights of Players checked the websites of bookmakers
The Association, which is engaged in the protection of the rights of players in Russia, reported on the audit of bookmakers' websites for the presence of placed copies of bank guarantees on them. The document guarantees the payout of the winnings by the bookmaker to the player. The corresponding requirement was added to the association proposal legislation in October 2021.
As the check showed, not all bookmakers adhere to the legislative norms: violations were found in six bookmakers out of 20 that came under the check. The association sent a notice to all violators of the need to correct the situation. After a second check, it turned out that all current licensees complied with the requirements to place a copy of the bank guarantee on their official websites.
Former founder of Melbet sued the bookmaker
The Cypriot company “Taglagas LTD”, which was previously the founder of the BC “Melbet” and withdrew from the membership in 2022, sued the legal entity of the – Melofon company. Based on the data in the file of arbitration cases, the claim has already been accepted for proceedings. In the statement, the plaintiff demands to recognize the transaction as invalid, but it is not yet known what kind of agreement it is. Representatives of “Melbet” no comments are made on the situation.
The court found BetCity BC guilty of illegal advertising
We are talking about an advertising tent with branded images of Betcity, which the bookmaker placed at the entrance to the Nizhny Novgorod stadium. in May 2021, during the Russian Football Cup. The Nizhny Novgorod OFAS presented the bookmaker with an administrative penalty, but the office decided to challenge the order and appealed to the Arbitration Court. In turn, the court recognized the OFAS decision as legal, since the law prohibits advertising of means of individualization outside a sports facility.
The traffic of Russian betting shops in October reached 59.5 million and increased by 9.4% compared to September. An increase in attendance is observed in 11 bookmakers out of 15 analyzed. The websites of the Betbum offices can boast of the greatest growth. – by 58.9% and “Pari” – by 50.6%. Russian gambling zones have to buy equipment in Asia
The main supplies of equipment for gambling zones in Russia are carried out by Asian and Russian manufacturers. This is told by Dmitry Anfinogenov, who heads the specialized Association of gambling operators AIRIS. Sanctions became the reason for the refusal of traditional equipment from European manufacturers. Now operators are forced to purchase equipment from Asian and Russian companies. At the same time, operators buy uniforms for staff, household chemicals and other funds necessary to maintain the operation of the casino exclusively from Russian manufacturers. Also, domestic suppliers are able to meet the casino's need for new roulette wheels.
According to the expert, a significant decrease in the intensity of poker tournaments in Russia is also associated with the sanctions pressure. The largest companies in the industry, such as Poker Stars and PartyPoker, left the Russian market. The flow of foreign visitors has fallen due to the lack of direct flights and uninterrupted flights.
Market analysis was carried out by the advertising network SlickJump, which recorded an increase in mobile traffic in the nine months of 2022 up to 90%, which is about 60 million monthly users. Initially, the company predicted an increase in the indicator by the end of the year to 83%. The rapid increase in mobile traffic is associated with the popularization of VPN services, as well as with the trend towards the rapid consumption of information through instant messengers.
The Central Bank supports the idea of digitalization of finance, but without crypto payments
Once again, the Bank of Russia spoke out against the possible use of cryptocurrencies in settlements. According to Elvira Nabiullina, head of the Central Bank, the regulator supports the development of digital financial assets, and also advocates the introduction of modern technologies, but they should not be limited solely to cryptocurrencies. The Central Bank has not changed its position regarding the fact that private cryptocurrencies are opaque and contain high risks of volatility. At the same time, Nabiullina noted that the digitalization of finance – one of the ways to implement trade relations between Russia and foreign partners.
Russia and Turkey agreed to cooperate in combating the criminalization of cryptocurrencies
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office and the Turkish Ministry of Justice have signed a two-year cooperation program. One of the directions of the – fight against the use of digital assets and cryptocurrencies in the criminal sphere. According to the Prosecutor General of Russia, whose post is occupied by Igor Krasnov, the Russian side has already developed appropriate judicial and investigative practice, regularly updates legislation and is ready to share experience with Turkish colleagues.
