Russian football has proposed an initiative to support domestic sports by increasing the tax burden on bookmakers, ERAI draws attention to the danger of such changes. A large-scale all-Russian poker series starts in Sochi, and the Russian eSports championship will take place in Belgorod. Important cryptocurrency news in Russia and the CIS: new EU restrictions have come into effect, due to which the crypt will not save the Russian Federation from sanctions, the Coinbase crypto exchange will block the accounts of Russian clients, and in Georgia and Uzbekistan they are actively working on the legalization of digital currencies and mining. About these and other events – in the latest digest of industry news in Russia and the CIS on April 30 – May 6.
Russian football wants more money from bookmakers
To support and develop domestic sports, the Russian Football Union proposed to increase funding and annually attract at least 23 billion rubles of additional funds. Key additional income item – These are deductions from bookmakers. The RFU proposes to change the deduction base and set 1.5% of the bet, and not 1.5% of the proceeds, as it is now. The industry is also asking for 0% VAT on sponsorship and advertising contracts, the abolition of contributions to extrabudgetary funds, the exemption from income tax for football entities, and the abolition of personal income tax for employees of sports entities. Representatives of the RFU presented the relevant documents at a meeting of the Board of Trustees.
The RFU initiative was commented by representatives of the Unified Regulator. According to ERAI, in the fourth quarter of 2021, the RFU received 762 million rubles from bookmakers in the form of deductions. If we change the tax base and deduct 1.5% from each bet in favor of sports, this will increase the actual rate to 5% of the current base. Undoubtedly, sports will receive good support, but for bookmakers this will be a significant deterioration in working conditions in the market. According to ERAI, such an initiative is undeveloped and in the long run may lead to the withdrawal of bookmakers from the legal Russian market.

The series consists of several stages that will take place in different cities of Russia and will last until the end of the year. The Sochi stage will take place on May 20-29, and the final “Championship” will take place in December this year. However, the organizers have not yet disclosed where exactly the final will be held. The amount of buy-ins in the Sochi stage ranges from 7 thousand to 105 thousand rubles.
Cryptocurrencies will not save Russia from sanctions
This conclusion was made by the experts of the agency Moody's. Crypto is unlikely to become an effective tool for circumventing sanctions and will not help the government conduct large financial transactions. Reason – in the low liquidity of the Russian crypto market, as well as in the use of measures by large crypto exchanges to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. A new package of EU sanctions prohibits crypto exchanges from opening and servicing wallets of Russian users with a volume of more than €10 thousand. The exchanges fulfill their obligations and report on the measures taken.
So, following Binance, the Coinbase crypto exchange announced forced restrictions on servicing Russian clients. The site conducted a mailing list in which it notified customers about new sanctions. Accounts of some users will be blocked from May 31. Funds on blocked accounts will be frozen. Before the restrictions take effect, the exchange offers clients to withdraw funds or provide the administration with documents confirming that the user does not fall under the sanctions imposed by the European Union.

It is also important to connect pages in regional social networks, organize offline events, speak at local conferences and exhibitions. Launching in Asia requires a large budget, but Russian clubs, cut off from the European and American industry, have no other choice now.
